Come visit the Lewiston and Clarkston Valley, known as the Gateway to Hells Canyon.

Follow the Lewis-Clark Trail!
The Lewiston and Clarkston communities are named for the famous explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who journeyed through this area twice during their 1804-1806 expedition.
The expedition traveled over 8000 total miles over a period of 2 years, 4 months
and 10 days. When the expedition
reached the Pacific the party voted on where to spend the winter. York, Clark's
slave, is allowed to vote, nearly 60 years before slaves in the U.S. would be
emancipated. Sacajawea is also allowed to vote, more than a century before
either women or Native Americans are granted full rights of citizenship. You will find several significant Lewis and Clark sites along our section of the Lewis and Clark Trail.
Lewiston, the original Capital of Idaho! Lewiston is the largest city in north central Idaho
and lies at an elevation of only 738 feet above sea level. We are
protected by 2,000 foot mountain ranges on all sides.
Lewiston is Idaho's only seaport and
oldest city, named for Meriwether Lewis, it boomed in 1860 due to
gold being found in the region. Lewiston became the state's capital in 1863. The
city retained the title only a few years before the capital was moved to Boise.
Because of our wonderful water recreation it is a perfect spot to test and
design jet boats, thus it is referred to as the jet boat capital of the world. The sister cities of Lewiston and Clarkston are separated only by the Snake
River and serve as the regional service center for our region.
Unbeatable Weather!
The climate of the Lewiston Clarkston Valley is so mild that people call our valley the
"banana belt", a place where you can enjoy year-round sunshine for retreats, conferences and sight-seeing adventures.
Two rivers join at the Lewiston and Clarkston border, the Clearwater and the Snake, making recreation the heart of our lifestyle. Few places offer the amount, variety and accessibility of recreation that are offered right here in our backyard! White water rafting, hunting, fishing, boating, water-skiing, and sandy swimming beaches offer endless possibilities. Miles of levee pathways follow the rivers for walking, jogging and biking.
PGA Approved Golf Coarse!
The Lewiston Clarkston Valley has 2 public and 2 private 18-hole golf courses and a golf center with a PGA driving range, which are all open year round.
Visit the Nez Perce Indian Reservation!
For thousands of years, the Nez Perce people have lived, hunted and fished here.
They are the founders of the famous Appaloosa Horse. A visit to the Nez Perce National Historical Park Visitors Center and Museum, located just south of Lewiston is a must see.
They have efforts in place for endangered species including a Wolf Center and
Fish Hatchery for the Great White Sturgeon.
