About Us

Snake River Adventures is a family owned and operated business.  Mike Luther has been playing in Hells Canyon since childhood.  He has been sharing this spectacular wonder with thousands of visitors each year since 1980.  His sons are now carrying on the tradition and are fully licensed captains.  They share with you the history, geology, wildlife and white water excitement that is the Hells Canyon.  Snake River Adventure's foundation was built on the hard work and honesty of dedicated employees; from the captains, guides, deckhands and mechanics to the friendly office staff.  We are committed to being the premier outfitter in Hells Canyon!!

Snake River Adventures is first class because you deserve first class treatment all the way!

This is a family owned and operated business. Both Mike and Jodee live and work at their privately owned Lodge Kirby Creek, so this is not just a job, but a life style.  One that they cherish and eagerly share with thousands of visitors each year.  This is the only privately owned property located in the Wild and Scenic portion of Hells Canyon.  The hospitality shines and our meals are fit for a king!  You can also enjoy swimming from our lovely beach.

Our fun starts where the others turn around!

The canyon is ever new and changing, with each visit bringing new surprises.  Our many return customers marvel at how each visit is as exciting as the first.  There is so much beauty and splendor that it cannot be appreciated with just one trip!  Since the Luther Family has spent their life on the river they can safely navigate the free flowing river, where others dare not go.  We travel to Hells Canyon Dam and anywhere in-between!

Most outfitters turn around at the end of Navigation or Rush Creek, but this is where the fun begins!  Up to that point you have a very pleasant boat ride and learn a lot of history, but ...............  Beyond Rush Creek is where the beauty and splendor of the canyon are most apparent. The river takes on a wild and natural state where whitewater abounds and you get the ride of your life!  When you take an Adventure with us it will be one that you will cherish for a life time!

Our trips are fully narrated by knowledgeable river captains!

All of our jet boat trips feature the canyon's prehistory, history, geology, flora and fauna in addition to its beauty and exciting whitewater. So come and visit North America's deepest gorge and a place of unsurpassed beauty which is Hells Canyon.  From the Snake River you will view a cathedral of God's own creation, with lofty walls and spires reaching heights of 9,393 feet, surpassing even the Grand Canyon!

Hells Canyon was formed by up thrusting lands and a down cutting river and reveals some of the earth's most spectacular geological formations caused by ancient ocean beds, floods and volcanoes.  The Seven Devils Mountains tower over the river to the east, a high plateau rims the canyon on the west and the high Wallowa Mountains loom nearby.

Every season is unique!

Every season has something different to offer. Spring finds the slopes blanketed in green with splashes of colorful wildflowers. Summer brings heat, velvet tan canyon walls and welcome splashes of cool river water on surprised boaters. Fall returns bright colors to the canyon, along with leaping steelhead trout, fall Chinook salmon, chukar, partridge and frisky bighorn rams banging heads over indifferent ewes. Winter plunges the canyon into deep contrasting shadows, occasionally highlighted with snow. Bald eagles join their golden brethren; winter steelhead and rainbow trout exist largely undiscovered in the cold waters.

Hells Canyon is truly a wonder, unlike any place else on earth. We hope you will join us and experience an unforgettable Snake River Adventure
